I just had this random flashback. I began to think back to when I was younger and I always felt embarrassed and ashamed of my scars growing up. Is there anything that you were ever ashamed of, or that you didn't want anybody to see? Let's be honest.
There has been something that each and every one of us has been embarrassed or ashamed of at some point in our life or we are currently dealing with.
I just wanted to let someone know today that there's power in your vulnerability. I always tried to figure out ways to cover those spots and marks when I was younger. Although I continued to get older it was no longer the marks but now it was my flaws that I may have felt. It was the regret of past decisions that I didn't want others to know. These things began to tear me up from the inside out. Until I got to a place where this was too heavy for me to bear. Today, from this day forth I want you to say no longer will I allow my past to deter me from my future. Just think of how your strength in sharing your testimony could free another from their bondage. Just knowing and seeing they aren't the only one struggling in this arena, it makes a world of a difference.
Mark 15:21-32 discusses the crucifixion of Jesus on the cross, they hung him high, stretched him wide, for us he died. But the crazy part about it all is that he was hung and humiliated, spit at, jeered, showing his scars and his pain for all of mankind to see so that we might have freedom.
Do we have to withstand the pain of being crucified on a cross, not necessarily to that extent, but we have to bear our own cross (Luke 14:27). Understanding that we have suffered or may still be suffering but just like Pastor Mahiri Takai shared on Sunday "There's power in knowing that God is still working on me."
The funny thing about it when I covered my scars no one knew they were there. So, in turn, this meant that nobody could help me get the proper treatment or remedy I needed. The direct application here, if we never allow ourselves to be vulnerable and show others we are hurting how can we get prayer. How can we seek guidance or understanding around this very situation we have found ourselves lost in? So as you go through those storms of life and you feel that you should cover it up or be ashamed take that opportunity to give it to God or connect with someone in your inner circle. So that you can get the help, support, and guidance so that you will not be left alone to face these battles in your solitude.
