What’s the goal you have for your life? I know it can be so easy to look into the future and see yourself in the big house. Or you might even see yourself graduating with a four-year degree. Lastly, happily married to the guy/girl of your dreams with kids and the house on the hill. These all sound great in the dream world, now let’s bring it back to reality real quick.
To accomplish any of those things that I named or any other dream, you guessed it you have to work! Everybody wants to wake up one day in the house of our dreams with no worries of how we get there. But somebody has to pay that mortgage every month. Getting a degree in college will definitely not just happen without work and my fellow millennials know it involves late nights, early mornings, pulling all nighters and study groups. We had to make sure we get that degree walking across that stage so mom and dad would be able to say, “That’s my boy”.
The million-dollar question is: “How do we get to that life goal?” I thought you’d never ask. It’s simply two things that can apply to any area of your life.
1. CONSISTENCY
Without consistency you can kiss your dreams goodbye.. I’m sure you’re familiar with the story of the tortoise and the hare. The hare was naturally faster than the tortoise but the tortoise kept on moving.
Despite what people say to you about chasing your passions despite what your situation may look like, you have to remain consistent. Focus on being consistent and in due time you will see results. Even in relationships, consistency pays. I’m no relationship expert but if anytime things get hard and you are quick to leave rather than be consistent in your efforts to work on your relationship, I’ll bet that the relationship won’t last long.
Next, we need to understand that we have to…
2. WORK
Consistency + work = results.
Far too often we want things or have goals and dreams that we expect to just happen over night. We don’t necessarily say that but we think it sometimes, let’s be honest. Just because we are so and so’s son or daughter, life is supposed to be a breeze. Wrong!
Even the Bible tells us in 2 Thessalonians 3:10, “…The one who is unwilling to work shall not eat." We’re not really talking about the dreams; we’re talking about survival! So if you don’t put in the work to eat, the bible says you don’t deserve to eat, yikes.
Think just for a moment of someone that you view as being extremely successful. If you truly track their success you will see our equation above applicable to some point in their lives.
Now let’s think about you, it’s your turn. Somebody somewhere is looking up to you, seeing how you are pursuing your dreams. Seeing how you will respond when things don’t work out the way you thought they would the first go round.
Somebody needs you to be successful because you are someone’s role model. So now decide. Are you going to be the hare with so much potential that you take it granted and feel like you’ll start that business later, you’ll comeback to school or that young lady you’ve been eying will wait around for you forever. Or will you be like the tortoise and no matter what the situation looks like, no matter how you may feel, no matter what others say, you are determined to show up consistently and work daily. You will no longer allow time to pass you by. I know for me I was tired of seeing everybody else winning. I knew that it was time for a change to occur, but I learned that I had to step up and make the decision to consistently work.
